Shell MegaPack Case Study : FRED

Company

College of Charleston
Web Site : http://www.cofc.edu
Product Website : http://www.fredhe.com

Company Information

Founded in 1770 and chartered in 1785, the College of Charleston is the oldest institution of higher education in the state of South Carolina and the thirteenth oldest in the United States. FRED is a document imaging/management software developed at the College of Charleston.

Problem

Need for fast, easy-to-use controls for presentation of a Windows Explorer like UI to users and allow them to interact with the file system.

Solution

Shell MegaPack.Net was used in the development of FRED and enabled the developers to greatly enhance the usability of the software and saved a lot of time (and money) for the developers.

These are some comments from Mr. William Morgenweck who was involved in the development of FRED :

"FRED is a program that is written by one developer but supports over 3 million records and 250 users. We scan all of our paper records into a SQL database. Before using the LogicNP Software control the program was 100% dependent upon the database. Since adding the controls from Shell MegaPack, we have been able to add user defined filing options for some of the document images. The controls have saved us 100's of hours of coding. It was like having another coder on the project."
