Shell MegaPack+ShellAppbar Case Study : Upper Canada Specialty Hardware

Company
Upper Canada Specialty Hardware
Web Site : http://www.ucsh.com/

Company Information
Upper Canada Specialty Hardware is a maker of quality door and cabinet hardware. They used Shell MegaPack in a CRM software that they have developed for internal use.

Problem
Requirement of UI controls which provide complete Windows Explorer like UI functionality with advanced filtering capabilities. Requirement of an appbar component to create a command bar similar to the one that comes with MS Office.

Solution
Shell MegaPack.Net was able to meet all these requirements and is used in the development of TIPS Explorer (Total Integrated Project System), their custom CRM product. TIPS Explorer has a Windows Explorer type interface and Quick Launch Command Bar that allows staff to easily create and save CRM (Customer Relationship Management) data. By utilizing the FolderView, Fileview and ShComboBox Controls they were able to recreate a rich Windows Explorer style user interface that replaced the need for using the standard Windows Explorer and made it easy for their staff to create and store custom CRM data comments. The ShellObjects set of controls, specifically the ShellAppBAr, was also utilized to create a Command Bar with short cuts to their CRM system as well as many Windows and MS Office functions that their company uses on a daily basis. Users utilized the drag and drop capabilities of controls to make it easy for them to store their files in a central file storage area. Additionally, they used the ShellPopupNotification control to inform the staff of what the program is doing (i.e. sending data to our SQL server) through every step of the process.

These are some comments from Mr. Chris McNeilly, IT Administrator at Upper Canada Specialty Hardware:

" Your well documented controls were easy to use and saved days of development time. I believe it cut the project development time in half. The samples you provided with the controls made it very easy to implement your controls into our project.

Our directory of files can get very large on some of our projects. By utilizing the filter and search functionality built into your controls, it has made it easier for our staff to find the files they are looking for very quickly."
